Living Yoga (80 hrs)

Sharing Transformative Yoga Philosophy in Your Classes (80 CEUs)

Our “Living Yoga” Teacher Training is part of the 300 HRS Advanced Teacher Training course with Prema Vinyasa Yoga.

This module is held in “hybrid” format, with 20 hours online, and 60 hours in person.

The online course covers the history and philosophy of yoga. We recommend that you take this part prior to coming over to the residential training, yet you can complete the quizzes until December 31, 2021.
The online 20-hrs course is taught by Dr Daniela Bevilacqua (PhD in Civilizations of Asia), one of researchers of the Hatha Yoga Project at SOAS University, and it includes one live session with Dr Bevilacqua to ask for clarification and whatever might interest you in her amazing research career among the Indian yogis.

During the 60 HRS residential retreat, the focus of the lectures and teaching labs will be on sharing yoga philosophy in our classes. Location

The location of this module will be at The “Laguna dello Stagnone” a protected natural area located in the municipality of Marsala, in the province of Trapani.

The lagoon, the largest in Sicily, characterized by shallow waters (1–2 m and often no more than 50 cm). Following the movements of the sand of the lagoon due to the underwater currents, the Isola Grande was formed, around two original islets. The birth of the island closed a part of the sea that was originally open and here, since there are no currents necessary for the exchange, the water has become stagnant, with a temperature above normal.

T Stagnone is a well-known spot at European level for the practice of kitesurfing and other water sports such as windsurfing and SUP.  In fact, there are many schools that welcome thousands of tourists from all over the world every year so you’ll also have the opportunity to practice one of these water sport!

Ameriga Giannone

Ameriga’s attraction for Eastern Philosophies and soteriological disciplines started when she was an adolescent. She pursued her first University Degree in Oriental Languages and Cultures, and spent her early youth living and traveling across different East Asian countries.

At the age of 25, while living in Burma, she begun to practice vipassana meditation. A few years later she was introduced to postural yoga. It was love at first asana and since then she has studied with profoundly inspiring teachers and collected over 2000 hours of formal trainings, as well as a MA in Yoga Studies (University of Venice).

The teachers that have influenced her movement practice are Shiva Rea (with whom she has completed over 300 hrs of trainings), Meghan Currie, Vinay Kumar (Pranavashya Yoga), and several Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga teachers, starting with Gregor Maehle and Monica Gauci, who inspired Ameriga to study Sanskrit, yoga philosophy and anatomy. Ameriga also visits the Ashtanga shalas of Nancy Gilgoff, Balu Tevar, and Lino Miele. She has also trained extensively in Yin Yoga with Jo Phee, studying also for advanced modules such as cadaver dissection.

She offers 200 and 300 hrs teacher trainings.

Outside of the mat, Ameriga loves to live by the sea, where she kitesurfs when she can. She is also a passionate rock climber, pole dancer, and loves to play kirtan with her band, the Bhakti Sisters.

Ameriga’s classes eclectically blend together her experiences with different styles of postural yoga. She teaches a slow and deep vinyasa flow, infused with the philosophical underpinnings of yoga, tantra and advaita vedanta. She guides the classes primarily by voice and touch (students are advised to let her know if they prefer not to be touched) inviting the students to find depth in the pose by exploring it, instead of “performing it” according to an ideal shape. She often sequences her flows in a mandala style, with emphasis on intentional movements, playfulness, breath work, and somatic embodiment.

Daniela Bevilacqua

Daniela Bevilacqua received her PhD in Civilizations of Africa and Asia from Sapienza University of Rome and in Anthropology from the University of Paris Nanterre. She is one of the 5 scholars who is researching for the Hatha Yoga Project at SOAS.
Through fieldworks in India, she looks at the present practices of haṭha yoga among sadhus belonging to

“traditional” ascetic orders connected with the physical practice of yoga and with austerities. The purpose of this research is to confront ethnographic material with textual and historical evidences to reconstruct the development of these practices.

Daniela has an online course on Indian Yoga and Hindu Asceticism that you can look at here:
